This presentation at this years GDC (Game Developers Conference) by Brenda Brathwaite makes the compelling argument that games (board as well as video) are not just art, but are some of the most rewarding, challenging, expressive, worthwhile art a human being can be involved in - because of their very nature of interactivity.
Long, but very much worth a listen to anyone at all interested in art, expression or game design.
Not to mention it completely crushes the idea that you can’t be emotionally invested in a game, and that it can’t make you cry (as many who played Brathwaite’s game “Train,” not surprisingly, have).
